Description:
This is an original & Very Rare Civil War Jenks-Merrill Navy Carbine Sword Bayonet dated 1862. The unsharpened, Double Curve Yataghan Style, 30 ¼" blade has a mild gray silver patina with darker blotches, no nicks and fine tip. The blade is clearly marked on the left ricasso "1862" with a blank reverse. The solid brass handle is marked "G" right behind the guard and "7646" on the spine. The inside muzzle ring diameter is approximately .90" and maintains an operational lug latch. Over-all in very good original condition, this can be referenced on page 114-115 in "Bayonets of the world" Volume Three by Paul Kiesling. This will not fit the standard Merrill Breech-Loading Rifle.;
