Description:
This cased small pocket Deringer is a period copy of the famous Henry Deringer's pistols primarily of the 1850s-1860s.It is not marked with a maker's name, but after conferring with a Deringer expert, he asserts that there is strong evidence that it is a New York made copy. The reason that it is unmarked is that Henry Deringer was well known for suing other makers for infringement of his pistol design. The American Walnut stock is checkered and fitted with German silver appointments including; sideplate, flash plate, wedge escutcheons, engraved trigger guard and initial shield. Deringers were made in many sizes, This would be marketed as a small pocket size with a 21/4" barrel and 51/2" overall length. The 6 grooved barrel is approximately .45 caliber. Rarely are single Deringers found with a period case. This attractive case is primarily of Rosewood and has an initial plate on the lid. Inside the case are three compartments containing an antique Eley cap tin, the pistol, and some round balls. The overall condition is original and excellent, and it is in perfict working order. There are traces of the original finish on the barrel and lock, and the wood stock does not have any cracks or repairs. This set presents very well, and if you like cased pistols this would be a great edition to any collection.
