This Carbine, serial number 33407, 30/40 cal..This Carbine is listed, by Springfield Armory records, as being issued and turned in by the 8th Cavalry. The 8th Cavalry supported the Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders in reserve. The 8th Cavalry was not recorded to have engaged in combat., but assumed 0ccupation duties like guard, martial law, etc. This 1896 carbine is original and correct. Mechanically excellent. The carbine is complete and all features function as they should. The metal finishes are original. The bluing is excellent and the lettering and markings are perfect. The bore is very good+, without any pitting. The bore may have some light frosting in the grove or need a cleaning. the barrel crown is excellent / pollished bright.The rear sight is the correct model 1901 Carbine, "C" marked sight.The front sight blade is correct, original and has the issued carbine "C' marked sight protector / hood. The stock is an excellent original field replacement stock. The stock CORRECTLY does not have a cartouche or a firing proof. The stock maker / inspector # 2 is stamped behind the trigger guard.The stock is in excellent original condition retaining the original linseed oil finish. Overall a early 1896 carbine in dismounted Cavalry configuration. Historicly issued and turned in by the 8 Cavalry. complete , correct and remains in excellent condition.....A legacy collectable..
