SCARCE EARLY U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1868 TRAPDOOR .50-70 CALIBER RIFLE. MATCHING EARLY SERIAL NUMBERS ON BARREL & BREECH. 32 1/2" BARREL EXCELLENT STRONG BRIGHT BORE. THE METAL SURFACES HAVE MOSTLY TONED TO A SMOOTH BROWNISH PATINA. WITH THE LOCKPLATE A PEWTER CASE-HARDENED PATINA. THE BARREL BANDS, HAMMER & TRIGGERGUARD SHOW A ZAZZY ADDED GOLD FINISH THAT APPEARS REMOVABLE IF WANTED. THE STOCK RATES VERY GOOD TO FINE SHOWING LIGHT DINGS, HANDLING MARKS & SOFTENED REMANTS OF CARTOUCH ON LEFT FLAT. ALL THE MARKINGS ARE CORRECT. SEE INFO FROM FLADERMANS GUIDE BOOK.
