This Egyptian Maadi Hakim is a serious Cold War heavyweight—an all-matching 8x57mm semi-automatic service rifle with no import marks and bold Egyptian military identity still stamped into the steel. The receiver displays the Egyptian crest and Arabic markings reading “Hakim 7.9mm,” with serial number 1604 appearing in Arabic numerals on the receiver. Built in Egypt at Maadi, the Hakim was the country’s full-power battle rifle answer to the postwar arms race, chambered in hard-hitting 8x57mm Mauser and carrying unmistakable Middle Eastern presence.
Mechanically, the Hakim is based on the Swedish Ljungman AG-42 system but scaled for Egyptian service and the powerful 8mm Mauser cartridge. It uses a direct gas impingement operating system with an adjustable gas valve, a massive receiver cover, detachable 10-round magazine, long sight radius, and perforated muzzle brake that gives the rifle its unmistakable silhouette. This is not a lightweight rifle pretending to be a battle implement—this is steel, wood, gas pressure and authority.
Historically, the Hakim sits at the crossroads of European design and Egyptian nationalism. After World War II, Egypt moved to modernize its military arms industry, and the Maadi-produced Hakim became one of the most recognizable indigenous Egyptian service rifles of the 1950's. Its Swedish design lineage, Egyptian manufacture, Arabic markings, and 8x57mm chambering make it one of the most distinctive semi-automatic military rifles of the early Cold War period.
