Introduced as one of Remington's premium all-weather hunting rifles, the Model 700 LSS combined the legendary accuracy of the Model 700 action with the durability of stainless steel and the striking appearance of a laminated hardwood stock. Chambered in the immensely powerful .300 Remington Ultra Magnum, this rifle represents the era when Remington was pushing the limits of long-range hunting performance. Built during the desirable pre-Freedom Group years, the LSS remains one of the most sought-after factory hunting configurations ever offered on the Model 700 platform.

The heart of this rifle is the proven Model 700 bolt action, one of the most successful sporting rifle actions ever designed. Its cylindrical receiver provides exceptional rigidity while the dual opposed locking lugs deliver tremendous strength and consistent lockup. The recessed bolt face fully surrounds the cartridge head, while the push-feed design, plunger ejector, and sliding extractor have earned the Model 700 a decades-long reputation for reliability in harsh hunting environments. These design characteristics have also made the Model 700 one of the most customized and respected bolt-action platforms in the world.

The LSS—short for Laminated Stainless—was designed specifically for hunters who refused to let weather dictate the success of their hunt. The satin stainless barreled action resists rust, moisture, and harsh mountain conditions far better than traditional blued steel, while the gray laminated hardwood stock offers greater stability than conventional walnut during dramatic swings in temperature and humidity. The attractive laminated grain pattern gives every rifle a unique appearance while providing exceptional structural strength in the field.

Visually, the LSS has become one of the most recognizable factory Remington hunting rifles ever produced. The gray laminate contrasts beautifully against the stainless action, while the Monte Carlo comb, black fore-end tip, black grip cap, and sharply cut checkering give the rifle a refined appearance that still looks modern decades after its introduction. It is equally at home displayed in a collector's safe or carried through elk country during a late-season hunt.

Remington introduced the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum to provide hunters with magnum performance beyond traditional belted cartridges. Built on the full-length Model 700 action, the cartridge offers tremendous velocity with outstanding energy retention, making it exceptionally well suited for open-country hunting where shots may stretch well beyond normal distances. The factory 26-inch barrel allows the cartridge to realize its full velocity potential while helping maximize downrange performance.

Whether loaded with 165, 180, or 200-grain hunting bullets, the .300 RUM has earned an outstanding reputation on North America's largest game. Elk, moose, black bear, mule deer, caribou, and even the great bears with proper premium ammunition are all well within the cartridge's capability. Combined with the inherent accuracy of the Model 700 action, this rifle gives experienced hunters confidence when opportunities present themselves across wide canyons, alpine basins, prairie draws, or western timber breaks.

The factory adjustable trigger provides a crisp, predictable break that complements the rifle's excellent mechanical accuracy. Combined with the rigid receiver, quality barrel, and laminated stock, the LSS became a favorite among hunters who demanded dependable sub-MOA performance with carefully selected ammunition. The installed scope bases allow the next owner to mount quality optics and tailor the rifle to virtually any hunting application.

Collectors and experienced shooters have increasingly gravitated toward pre-Freedom Group Remington rifles, appreciating the manufacturing quality and fit associated with this period of production. Factory LSS rifles remain highly desirable because they combine practical hunting utility with timeless styling, and examples chambered in .300 Remington Ultra Magnum continue to attract hunters looking for one of Remington's most capable long-range magnum rifles.

If you're searching for a serious Western hunting rifle with classic Remington styling, proven Model 700 reliability, and enough power to confidently pursue nearly any North American big game animal, this Model 700 LSS deserves your attention. It is a handsome, hard-hitting rifle that represents one of the finest stainless hunting configurations Remington ever produced.
