Payment Types Accepted: Bank to bank wire transfer (preferred), or bank cashier's check only Description: Very high condition 1873 in ultra scarce 22 Long caliber. SN 556090 made in 1901. According to the Cody Museum letter shown, this rifle was originally chambered in 22 Short. Through my own inspection and research, along with discussions with Cody museum, it seems probable that this rifle was factory rebarreled to 22 Long, along with having the correct cartridge lifter installed, some time after they stopped keeping records on the model, hence the subsequent work was never recorded. The factory proof marks that have been struck on top of receiver and top of barrel appear absolutely genuine, as does the post 1906 style caliber stamp with its off center position. With that said, the rifle remains in very attractive shape with much of the lustrous original blue remaining with no refinish or touchup. The original wood is solid with precise fit and mostly original finish, but looks to have had a couple of flutes filed into forward comb area, so has endured a partial light and convincing refinish in those areas. The factory sights include a Beach style Lyman No. 5 combination front and a Winchester 22 series flat top rear. The bore is better than average for the caliber, with pronounced rifling, decent brightness, mixed with some light pitting from midway toward the breech. The inner working mechanisms including the loading tube appear virtually new. *After experiencing some difficulty with a damaged and now replaced cartridge stop that was allowing an overfeed situation, the rifle now functions and fires perfectly in all regards with standard 22 long ammunition. Expedited and fully insured shipping in a dedicated foam lined box is an additional $150. SAFETY NOTICE: Buyer is solely responsible for determining that a used gun is safe to shoot.
