This is the Palm Protector pistol manufactured by the Chicago Firearms Company circa 1890's and was a unique self protection firearm that held 7 shots designed to be concealed in the palm of a hand and operated by squeezing the mechanism which rotated and fired the cartridge. It is well marked on the right side "The Protector" with patent dates and on the opposite side "Chicago Fire Arms Co. Chicago ILL". This example has been modified with new screws to secure each of cover plates. The metal surfaces show about 85-90% of the original bright nickel finish with one area of flaking and roughness on the frame and wear along the decorated edge of the frame. The hard rubber grip plates and palm swell remain in excellent condition with fine detail and some light surface use marks. The mechanism does function but is somewhat inconsistent and will hang up every 5 or 6 rounds. A unique and scarce piece of American Firearms history. Antique Price: $1,895.00 Antique: Yes |
