Offered for sale is an exceptional Colt Detective Special chambered in .38 Special, manufactured in 1948. This early post-war Second Issue revolver represents one of the finest examples of Colt's legendary craftsmanship during what many collectors consider the golden era of the Colt double-action revolver.
Introduced in 1927, the Detective Special forever changed the concealed carry market by becoming the first successful production snub-nose revolver built on a compact frame while still offering a full six shot cylinder. Its balance, smooth action, and unmistakable Colt quality have made it one of the most collectible defensive revolvers ever produced.
This example features the desirable 2 inch barrel and remains in near new condition, retaining excellent original finish with only the slightest evidence of careful handling. The revolver displays sharp edges, crisp factory markings, an outstanding bore, and the beautiful level of polish that made Colt's post-war Royal Blue finish famous. Mechanically, the revolver functions exactly as it should, with the exceptionally smooth double-action pull and crisp single-action break that Colt collectors have come to expect.
