Description: General Specs: Ithaca, 1963, 12 Gauge, 8lbs. 15oz., Full Choke, LOP 14 1/2", DAH 1 7/8", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 405104 Ithaca’s Knickerbocker Single Barrel Trap guns hold a special place among American target arms. Built on the strong, simple Knick action, these guns earned their reputation the honest way — by breaking targets on trap fields across the country. Serial number 405104 is accompanied by its Ithaca factory letter confirming it as a Grade 4 gun with a 32-inch barrel, 14-1/2 inch length of pull, 1-1/2 inch drop at comb, and 1-7/8 inch drop at heel. The records show the gun was started July 9, 1963, sold to Joseph T. Elton, shipped August 6, 1963, and inspected October 10, 1963. There is nothing this Ithaca 4E needs except a trip to the club. With its excellent balance and long-tapered choke, the Knick remains a serious trap gun even by modern standards. A well-set-up Ithaca SBT will still stand proudly beside modern Krieghoff, Kolar, and Perazzi trap guns, while offering something they do not: classic American hand engraving, elaborate hand checkering, figured walnut, and the feel of a hand-finished vintage target gun. This example is in outstanding original condition. The receiver retains 99% of its vivid factory case coloring along with sharp 4E engraving, excellent screws, a tight lock-up, and the top lever sitting well right of center. The 32″ barrel features a mirror bore and 99% original factory blue. While most single-barrel trap guns from this era were altered, refinished, or worn out from decades of use, this one remains extraordinarily well preserved. There is one notable ding at the forward end of the forend, (please see the photographs) disclosed for accuracy but left untouched to preserve the gun’s originality, and repairable at the buyer’s discretion; Vintage Firearms gunsmiths can make alterations to fit your needs with no waiting in line. An Edwards Recoil Reducer is installed in the stock, a period-appropriate trap-shooter addition and part of this gun’s shooting history. From a collector’s standpoint, it should be noted as a stock modification, but it is very much in keeping with the gun’s intended use. The included Edwards paperwork explains the reducer system, and Bob’s handwritten note confirms this Knick 4E has the Edwards reducer installed. A modern trap gun with this level of engraving, checkering, wood, and hand-finished character would be a very expensive proposition. Here is the real deal: a factory-lettered Ithaca 4E Knickerbocker Single Barrel Trap, beautifully preserved, mechanically ready, and still fully capable of doing what Ithaca built it to do.
