Description:
General Specs: Fox, 1921, 16 Gauge, 6lbs. 3oz., Chokes M/F, LOP 13 1/2", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number:  301431

A.H. Fox shotguns earned their reputation in the field. Known for their strong actions, simple design, and lively handling, Fox doubles remain among the most respected American side-by-side shotguns ever made. The A Grade was Fox’s entry-level graded gun, offering tasteful engraving and upgraded finish over the Sterlingworth while retaining the same dependable mechanical design that made the Fox name famous.

Serial number 301431 is a Philadelphia-made A.H. Fox A Grade 16 gauge, built in 1921. This is an extractor gun, not an ejector gun, making it a simple, reliable, and straightforward upland double.  You won’t be digging through the weeds looking for empties while the next grouse takes off at your feet!

This gun is best viewed as a hunting gun.  The receiver has aged largely to a silver-gray patina with clear A Grade engraving, the wood shows honest field use, and the stock is short, measuring 13 1/2″ length of pull over a new 1″ Decelerator pad. That shorter stock dimension will not fit every shooter, but it makes this Fox especially appealing for a smaller-statured hunter, a younger shooter stepping into a proper American double, or anyone who prefers a compact, quick-handling upland gun.
At 6lbs. 3oz. with a balance point just 1/4″ in front of the hinge pin, this Fox has the kind of lively, responsive feel that makes a vintage 16 gauge so enjoyable in the field. The appeal here is not high-condition collectability, but usability: a lightweight, well-balanced, Philadelphia-made Fox 16 gauge.

Additionally, this gun has been VFI Certified. The gun is mechanically excellent and is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN HAVING THE ACTION AND FOREND IRON STRIPPED, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, ALL PARTS SCRUBBED CLEAN, INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED, AND REASSEMBLED, NOW CARRYING A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  This is a $450 service in our shop.

This is an honest, usable, century-old American double with real field utility. It is a vetted, lightweight A.H. Fox 16-gauge for the shooter who values fit, handling, mechanical integrity, and vintage American craftsmanship.
