Description:
You are on a British P1853 Enfield Rifle that may have been imported by the Confederacy during the Civil War. I say this because there are some possible CSA markings ahead of the butt plate tang. Unfortunately some moron has sanded the stock at some point and the markings are not totally legible. Sometimes under magnification it looks like it may be a JS/Anchor then it might be a CH1 in a circle. These are the only stock markings left. There are a couple of wood filler repairs and some wood missing in back of the bolster. The lock plate is marked TOWER/1863 with a Crown to the rear of the hammer. The breech is marked with London proofs. These are the only markings visible on the metal parts. I believe the parts are mostly original with maybe a couple of repro parts. Pretty sure the ramrod is a correct repro. The metal parts have a brown patina. The bore is dark but the rifling is clearly visible. The bore measures about .59. The lock holds on both cocks and the hammer falls when the trigger is squeezed. Rear sight is MIA. I have it priced for what the parts would bring on Ebay. This one could be a sleeper???
