Description:
This is a rare DWM Artillery Luger with a fascinating history. It was originally issued to the Imperial German military during WWI, in 1917. All matching with the proper Imperial military proofs on the slide. It has a "1920" government property marking on the chamber, indicating it remained in government service following WWI - this was to comply with the military restrictions imposed on Germany after the war. There is a "Crown M" Kriegsmarine marking with an "1319 N" Nordsee property marking on the back strap. This is what is categorized as an early Nazi Kriegsmarine rework LP.08 Luger, discussed on page 155 of Jan Still's "Axis Pistols" book. During this period, "Crown N" and "Eagle M" Navy markings are mixed. This particular example comes as a rig with a matching-numbered navy magazine and a 1941-dated P.38 holster that was reworked for navy issue and extended to fit an artillery Luger. A luger tool pouch was added to the front to accommodate the Luger. As you can see, the back is dated 1941, waffen-proofed, and has a Nazi-era "Eagle M" Kriegsmarine acceptance proof. The gun has an arsenal re-blued finish (presumably done at the Navy arsenal) with very minor high edge wear, muzzle wear, and some areas of pin-pricking under the bluing here and there. Some minor pitting around the left side of the muzzle. Fitted with un-numbered blonde wood grips. Very nice bore with great rifling and some very light frosting in the grooves.
