Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Italian Gardone Val Trompia, more commonly referred to as Gardone V.T., Carcano Model 1891 Cavalry Carbine with an integral folding bayonet, manufactured in 1937 during a production run between 1891 and 1944. The production plant in Gardone Val Trompia was already active at the beginning of the 19th century, but was developed in its definitive form at the end of the 19th century (around 1870 with the new Vetterli's production) to expand the capabilities of the Brescia Arms Factory's headquarters, which were severely hampered by its location in the city center. Carcano is the frequently used name for a series of Italian bolt-action repeating military rifles and carbines which used an en bloc Mannlicher style magazine feed where the whole clip goes into the rifle and after the last round is chambered, the empty clip drops out of the bottom. Introduced in 1891, this rifle was chambered for the rimless 6.5×52mm Carcano round. It was developed by the chief technician Salvatore Carcano at the Turin Army Arsenal in 1890 and was originally called the Modello (model) 91 or simply M91. Successively replacing the previous Vetterli-Vitali rifles and carbines, it was produced from 1892 to 1945. The M91 was used in both rifle (fucile) and shorter-barreled carbine (moschetto) form by most Italian troops during World War I and by Italian and some German forces during World War II.
