The Smith & Wesson Model 60 is one of the most influential concealed-carry revolvers ever built, earning its reputation as the world's first production stainless steel revolver. This example is an early 3-inch heavy barrel configuration that combines the portability of the J-frame with improved sight radius, balance, and practical accuracy. The pre-lock construction and classic factory walnut Magna stocks make it especially appealing to collectors and shooters alike.
The 3-inch barrel transforms the handling characteristics of the Model 60. The additional barrel length provides noticeably better velocity from standard and +P .38 Special loads while also reducing muzzle rise and improving follow-up shot speed. The traditional Smith & Wesson double-action trigger remains smooth and predictable, while the single-action pull allows excellent precision for deliberate shooting.
Built on the compact J-frame, this revolver offers an outstanding balance between concealability and shootability. The round-butt frame fits a wide variety of hand sizes, and the factory wood stocks maintain the classic Chief's Special profile while providing a secure purchase. The fixed sights are rugged, snag resistant, and perfectly suited for a defensive revolver designed to be carried often.
Chambered in .38 Special, the Model 60 has long been respected for reliability, controllability, and broad ammunition availability. Based on the AEV serial prefix and configuration, this revolver dates to approximately 1983–1984 with high confidence, placing it firmly within the desirable pre-lock production era.
