Description:
SMITH & WESSON Double Action LADYSMITH .22 RF SELF DEFENSE Revolver C&R

ROARING TWENTIES! 1 of 12,200 Made Circa 1920

Here  Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Smith & Wesson Third Model Ladysmith Revolver in .22 Rimfire Long (.22 S&W), made circa 1920 with only 12,200 made during the production run of 1910 through 1921. The first model was significant as it was designed by Daniel B. Wesson himself and because it was the first .22 rimfire since the No. 1 Third Issue’s production ended two decades previously. Like the No. 1, the Ladysmith features 7 shots of .22 rimfire. Unlike the No. 1, the Ladysmith features a swingout cylinder with a star ejector as well as a double action trigger.

The first model Ladysmith was produced between 1903 and 1906 with a serial number range of 1 through 4575. The second model was produced between 1906 and 1910 with a serial number range of 4576 through13,950. The third model, like this one, was produced between 1910 and 1921 with a serial number range of 13,951 through 26,154. Though tiny, it features a very usable steel frame and it is no wonder that ladies would have used this revolver for self-defense in the years leading up to the Roaring Twenties. S&W still uses this nomenclature in their marketing of small, concealable revolvers today!

The overall condition is fine. Bright nickel re-finished. Excellent action. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. Fine, vibrant pearl grips. Markings are legible and clear. Numbers on the barrel and cylinder match. Factory rework star on the butt. This example is a nice little Ladysmith revolver that would be a nice supplement to any early 20th century collection. A scarce and highly collectible Smith & Wesson Revolver!
