In 1904, Colt introduced its first medium frame double action target model revolver as the Colt Officer’s Model. This was technically a variant of the original Colt New Army and Navy Series of 1892 to 1908. For 65 years they manufactured this handgun built on the “E” frame under several different names, one of them being the “Officer’s Model”. Each one was manufactured first and foremost as a target revolver and specifically not as a general-use handgun. These revolvers were available in .22 long rifle, .32 Colt and .38 Special, though Colt dropped the .32 Long Colt chambering in 1940. This revolver features upgraded target front and rear sights—the rear sight on the flat top frame which is windage adjustable. The face of the trigger as well as the front and back of the grip frame are knurled for greater purchase. The grips are likewise fully checkered. The double action is smooth and the single action is crisp. The Officer’s Model was the top of Colt’s revolver line as a target revolver until the introduction of the Colt Python in 1955 and in 1969 the Colt Officer’s Model was dropped from production. In the days when the revolver was King of the Matches, the Officer’s Models were always the favorite of the champions and Colt held all the records. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. The Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame remains clear. The action is excellent in both double and single action modes. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The grips are solid. The numbers match. A great combat revolver in the Target configuration by Colt! Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 6 inches.
