Description:
ONE OF THE RAREST AND MOST INTERESTING REMINGTONS I’VE OFFERED:  MODEL 14 ½ .44-40 SADDLE RING CARBINE, WITH EITHER BOLIVIAN OR MEXICAN POLICE/PRISON MARKINGS. Any of these Model 14 ½ carbines and this one is in desirable .44-40 caliber. The serial number is in the 33XXX range and there is a small “M” stamped in the left side of the barrel ahead of the receiver which I believe puts the manufacture date at 1921. The left side of the stock is stamped with the very small number “8422” over “P”  “S” over “LA PAZ.” There is a La Paz in Bolivia with, according to Google, an infamous prison “San Pedro” that was active in 1921. There is also a La Paz in Baja California, Mexico. Could also be a police or security marking. Some further research might prove more conclusive. Overall, the metal is silver and silver-gray. There is some blue around the saddle ring on the left side and some small amount light thinned blue on the receiver sides. The saddle ring is intact as is the correct and desirable “wheel” adjustable rear sight with small blade front sight. The wood is surprisingly excellent with few handling marks in the stock and only a few light marks in the pump handle. The “La Paz” etc. markings are fairly clear. The stock and pump have not been sanded or refinished. Correct Remington UMC marked checkered metal butt plate. Tight action, safety functions, locks up tight when cocked, bore is about excellent with strong rifling all the way through and any corrosion surface and scattered. This one recently came out of Arizona. A fascinating and historical super rare 125 year old model.
