The Smith & Wesson Model 36-1 is a classic, small-frame double-action revolver chambered in .38 S&W Special. Introduced in 1967, the "-1" engineering dash code explicitly designates the variant equipped with a 3-inch heavy barrel, differentiating it from the standard 1.875-inch snub-nosed version of the iconic "Chiefs Special". The 3-inch full-thickness barrel provides a longer sight radius. It adds front-end weight to noticeably reduce muzzle flip and recoil. .38 Special
