The Ruger American Rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO with a 16.1" barrel—known primarily as the Ruger American Ranch configuration—is a highly popular, fast-handling utility carbine designed for truck use, varmint hunting, and general farm defense. Because it is chambered in 5.56 NATO, it safely shoots both commercial .223 Remington and military-surplus 5.56 ammunition. Feeds from standard STANAG/AR-style polymer or steel magazines via an integrated AR magwell, coming standard with a 10-round capacity.
