Description:
Serial #C239664, .38 Special, 6" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This Pre-Model 10, five-screw revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, yoke, and extractor. The barrel is numbered differently and was refinished by NYPD armorers at some point during the gun's service life. The frame and cylinder retain 85-90% of the original blue finish with some mild silvering along the edges, and some scattered spots of freckling here and there. The gripstraps have faded to a dull plum-brown, but the stamped rack number on the heel of the butt is still crisp and clear: "3321". The hammer and trigger have much of their original color case-hardening remaining with the balance worn to a bright gray, mostly along the edges, and the checkered walnut grips, numbered to the gun on the interior, are in very good shape with minor handling marks and blemishes at the butt. The revolver is accompanied by a 2016 dated Smith & Wesson factory letter that lists a ship date of May 19, 1953, to the New York City Police Department, New York, NY. This is a fantastic, NYPD-used revolver, and is in very good plus-near fine condition overall. FFL or C&R;
