Description: General Specs: Francotte, 1981, 12-Gauge, 7lbs. 1oz, Screw ins, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 1/8", DAC 1 3/8" Serial Number: 21570 Auguste Francotte earned its reputation by building refined sporting arms that combined traditional Liège craftsmanship with the balance and handling qualities expected of a serious game gun. This handsome sidelock ejector is a particularly appealing example, pairing extensive game-scene engraving with a clean coin-finished action, excellent factory condition, and great dimensions. The engraving is the defining feature. Detailed game scenes cover the action while scrollwork frames the fences, borders, trigger guard, and surrounding surfaces. Just as important as the amount of engraving is the restraint with which it was executed. Carefully preserved open space gives the animals and landscape depth, allowing the scenes to remain distinct rather than becoming lost within an overly crowded design. Against the bright coin finish, the engraving is crisp, highly visible, and exceptionally attractive. The 28-inch barrels retain 99% of their factory blue and feature mirror bores, a solid rib with distinctive matting, and a brass front bead. The action remains tight with the top lever centered, the ejectors are timed, and the double triggers break crisply. Interchangeable chokes in the right barrel add useful versatility while preserving the traditional handling and appearance of a fine European double. The straight-hand stock and splinter forend are shaped from well-figured walnut and finished with an unusual checkering pattern; rather than ending in conventional borders, portions of the pattern meet across the underside of the stock and over the wrist. A leather-covered pad with a widow’s peak completes the traditional look and provides a comfortable 14 1/4-inch length of pull. At just over seven pounds, this Francotte has enough mass for steady shooting without becoming cumbersome in the field. It offers the beauty and mechanical refinement expected of a finely engraved sidelock yet remains a practical choice for days in the field. For the sportsman looking for a distinctive Belgian game gun rather than another plainly finished working double, this Francotte presents an appealing combination of artistry, condition, and shootability. The gun is supplied with a leather covered case. Thanks for looking, please review the photographs and specification bellow.
