Bridgeport Works) Country of Manufacture: United States Factory: Bridgeport, Connecticut Cartridge: .43 Spanish (11.15×57mmR) Powder Type: Black Powder Quantity: 1,000 Original Factory Cartridges Packaging: Original Wooden Transit Chest with Factory Galvanized Steel Liner Era: Early 20th Century (1910–1920) Condition: Original crate with intact factory galvanized liner containing original ammunition Additional Features: Finger-jointed military crate, Remington UMC factory markings, original moisture-resistant steel liner, exceptionally scarce complete survivor. An exceptionally scarce complete factory crate of original Remington UMC .43 Spanish Black Powder Metallic Cartridges, housed in its original wooden shipping chest with the factory galvanized steel moisture-proof liner still present and containing its original ammunition. Complete surviving factory ammunition crates from this period are extraordinarily uncommon, particularly in obsolete military calibers such as the .43 Spanish. The exterior bears classic Remington Arms Company markings from the U.M.C. Bridgeport Works facility in Bridgeport, Connecticut, identifying the crate as a shipment of Small Arms Ammunition – Metallic Cartridges. The opposite end retains its original factory stencil identifying the contents as 1,000 rounds of Spanish Black Powder ammunition, complete with the iconic Remington UMC trademark logo. Unlike the vast majority of surviving examples that were discarded after military or commercial use, this crate retains its original galvanized steel hermetic liner. These liners were designed to protect ammunition from moisture during long-term storage and overseas shipment, making complete surviving examples increasingly difficult to locate today. The .43 Spanish cartridge (11.15×57mmR) was originally developed by Remington for the famous Rolling Block rifle adopted by Spain in the late nineteenth century and remained in commercial production for export contracts and surplus markets for many years thereafter. Remington UMC was among the principal American manufacturers producing this ammunition for military and commercial customers worldwide. Complete factory cases such as this represent far more than collectible ammunition—they are complete historical shipping packages that illustrate how ammunition was manufactured, preserved, and transported during the early twentieth century. Because so few unopened or complete examples survive, they are highly sought after by advanced ammunition collectors, Remington collectors, Rolling Block enthusiasts, museums, and military history collections. This crate displays attractive original factory stenciling, honest storage wear consistent with age, and outstanding visual appeal while retaining its original factory configuration. It is an impressive display piece and a remarkable survivor from the golden age of American ammunition manufacturing. ***Please see pictures for condition and wear*** SHIPPING INFORMATION: AMMUNITION MUST SHIP IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LAWS.
