Description:
This is a very interesting gun. We believe this to have been arsenal assembled out of older parts for commercial sale during the time of the American Revolution. Nice early banana shaped British lock, can't quite make out the markings towards the tale, but appears to be dated in the 1740's, possibly from a pattern 1742 Long Land Brown Bess. 31 1/2 inch barrel appears to be original length and the bayonet lug/stud on the top is original. Original flint configuration. Original length ramrod. The buttplate tang as well as the barrel are both engraved 8. The ramrod has a 6 as well as 72 engraved on it. Approximately .75 caliber, smoothbore. Gun has a great untouched look to it. Please patina on the brass as well as the iron parts, some light pitting. Stock is fine with some dings and handling marks, checkering in the wrist was most likely added during its period of use. Looks to be 47 3/4 inches long overall. While this gun does not fit a particular pattern, many guns like these found there way to our shores to fight the British. All in all, a great untouched gun that could have very well fought in the American Revolution or one of the many other wars of the period.
