An original sealed British military ammunition crate containing 1,440 rounds of .303 British L Mark V blank ammunition. Packed by the Royal Ordnance Factory at Radway Green in Cheshire, England, this crate is dated August 1945 and remains preserved in its original military configuration. The surviving exterior labels identify the contents as “1440 CARTRIDGES BLANK .303 INCH L. MARK V” and display the Radway Green factory designation “RG” together with the August 1945 date code. The markings remain highly legible and provide a direct historical record of the crate’s original contents and wartime production.
These .303 British blank cartridges were manufactured for military training, maneuver exercises, ceremonial use, weapon familiarization, and blank-firing applications. Each cartridge contains a live primer and propellant charge but does not use a conventional metal projectile. Blank ammunition of this type was commonly associated with Lee-Enfield rifles, Bren light machine guns, Vickers machine guns, and other British service weapons chambered in .303 British.Royal Ordnance Factory Radway Green was one of the United Kingdom’s major wartime small-arms ammunition production facilities. Crates bearing original Radway Green labels are desirable among collectors of British military ammunition, Lee-Enfield equipment, World War II militaria, Commonwealth ordnance, and historic military packaging.
The crate is constructed from heavy timber and retains its original steel reinforcing straps, rope carrying handles, slotted hardware, zinc-lined moisture barrier, and pasted paper identification labels. The exterior displays age-related scuffs, surface marks, label wear, edge wear, and other honest military storage characteristics consistent with an original crate dating from the final months of World War II.
This crate remains sealed and has not been opened by National Armory. The contents are represented according to the surviving exterior factory markings. Its sealed condition, substantial original cartridge quantity, August 1945 production date, highly legible labels, and complete military construction give it strong collector and display appeal.
