The Taurus Armas Model 44 chambered in .44 Remington Magnum with a 4-inch barrel is a heavy-duty, large-frame double-action/single-action (DA/SA) revolver. Often referred to as a "packin' gun" by outdoorsmen, this highly robust revolver is specifically configured for backcountry defense against dangerous predators, hunting backup, and heavy-caliber target shooting. To counteract the violent muzzle climb inherent to a short-barreled .44 Magnum, Taurus integrates multiple gas expansion ports directly into the top of the barrel near the muzzle. These ports bleed off expanding gases upward, pushing the front of the gun down to drastically minimize muzzle flip and quicken follow-up shots. The firearm utilizes a vital safety transfer bar mechanism. The hammer cannot strike the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled completely to the rear, ensuring the weapon will not accidentally discharge if dropped directly onto its hammer in the field. .44 Magnum
