Description:
This is a neat grouping that consists of a matching Civil War era jacket, trousers, and black fur busby. The first jacket is a private purchase double-breasted swallowtail jacket of dark blue cloth with light blue felt and bullion brocade facings at the cuffs, collar, and tails. The front has 14 NH state seal brass buttons in two rows of seven, with additional buttons at the cuffs and at the tops of the tails in back. Two faded and stained woolen enlisted shoulder brooms with brass "2" regimental numbers are loosely attached at the shoulders. The dark blue cloth has faded somewhat along the front of the jacket, and has a few minor stains and tiny spots of insect damage, while the back of the jacket still has a rich, dark blue hue. The padded interior of the jacket has a lightly worn, but still intact dark green polished cotton lining that has some staining on the ends of the tails. The white linen sleeve linings are still intact, as is the brown cloth interior lining of the inside breast pocket. The remnants of a maker or retailer label can still be seen on the inside of the collar, but only the last few letters of the location can still be made out: "(SW)AN(Z)EY N.H." The accompanying trousers have matching light blue service color stripes with bullion brocade borders along both legs, and are cut from darker, almost black cloth. The cloth is in fine shape, but does have a few small spots of insect damage The trousers are missing one of the rear suspender buttons, but the original linen and striped cotton ticking pocket linings are still intact without any holes. The final piece is a bear skin busby with plume, bullion cord, and NH gilt shako plate on the front. The black leather peak, interior webbing, and black silk lining are detached, but still present, with a partially visible Boston retailer label on the inside of the crown, as well as a paper name label that reads, "J. E. PERKINS. No. 15". This is a rarely seen NH militia uniform, and is in good-very good condition overall.;
