Description:
VERY EARLY MODEL 1905 1st CHANGE MILITARY & POLICE, WITH BOX, TARGETS ETC., #122XXX, ONLY MADE 1906-1909. The maroon box is the correct style for this revolver with the correct end label indicating model, .38  (.38 Special),  barrel length, square butt, blue finish etc. The revolver has all matching numbers including on the grips. Overall exc. bright blue with a few small spots on the cylinder and on the left side of the muzzle that appear to be from storage and not wear- small rust spots on the very surface that wiped off with oil and OOOO steel wool. Vivid case color on the hammer and trigger.  All sharp excellent markings with the last patent date of 1906 on the barrel top. In the box are two yellowed targets pencil numbered to this revolver, a brush, swab, and a small glass vile of oil(!) that still retains some oil inside with a cork stopper. Box is solid and lightly scuffed with only one minor tear in the front bottom flap. Has the directions for use in the inside of the lid and the picture of grips with S&W monogram and warning in the bottom of the box. Checkered trigger and 6 ½” barrel, sharp checkering on the exc. grips and most of the blue remains on the front face of the cylinder indicating that this one was fired very little- perhaps only for the test targets in the box. tight mechanically with bright exc. bore. A great 120 year old boxed S&W!
