The factory stencil identifies the contents as "1000 CARTRIDGES – 7.62mm – BLANK-STAR," while the production lot is marked 14/73, indicating manufacture during 1973.
Blank-Star cartridges utilize a folded star-crimp case mouth rather than a projectile and were engineered to produce reliable cycling in military rifles and machine guns when paired with the appropriate blank-firing attachment. During this era, these cartridges primarily supported training exercises for the Nigerian Armed Forces using 7.62×51mm NATO service weapons including the Heckler & Koch G3 rifle and other NATO-pattern firearms.
Constructed from heavy hardwood with reinforced cleats, dovetailed corner joints, a robust steel locking latch, and recessed folding steel carry handles, this crate was designed to withstand repeated military transport and field storage.
