Description:
The Egyptian Hakim rifle is a 1950s-era semi-automatic battle rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser. Manufactured domestically with tooling and design concepts purchased from Sweden, it is an upgraded, heavier variant of the Swedish Ag M42 Ljungman
Core Specifications
  • Origin: Egypt (produced by the Maadi Military Factory)
  • Caliber: 7.92 × 57mm Mauser (8mm Mauser)
  • Action: Direct Impingement, Semi-Automatic
  • Magazine: 10-round, detachable
  • Weight: Approx. 10 lbs unloaded
  • Length: Approx. 48 inches
Key Design & Functional Features
  • Operating Mechanism: Uses a direct impingement gas system and a carrier-controlled, rear-locking, tilting bolt.
  • Adjustable Gas System: Unlike the Swedish Ljungman, the Hakim features an adjustable gas port to accommodate different ammunition loads from various global manufacturers.
  • Muzzle Device: Fitted with a large, permanently affixed muzzle brake to help manage the heavy recoil of the 8mm Mauser cartridge.
  • Cocking Mechanism: Instead of a traditional charging handle, the Hakim features a sliding trapezoidal metal dust cover over the receiver. It has wire loops on either side that the shooter presses forward and pulls back to manually rack the bolt.
  • Loading: Features a manual bolt hold-open and uses standard 5-round Mauser stripper clips, inserted through the top of the action.
Sights and Furniture
  • Sights: Protected front blade sight and a tangent-style rear sight adjustable for elevation.
  • Stock: Classic military rifle construction with a wood handguard and stock.

Operational History
General Gamal Abdul Nasser initiated the Hakim's production to build an indigenous small-arms capability following the 1952 Egyptian revolution. It served as the primary battle rifle for Egyptian armed forces in the 1950s and 1960s before being replaced by the Kalashnikov (AK-47/AKM) platform. The design was eventually downsized into a carbine variant chambered in 7.62 × 39mm known as the Rasheed
