Here is a very fine pre-war Oberndorf Mauser sporting rifle finished and retailed by John Rigby. The 24” stepped barrel has an excellent bore. It is engraved: RESIGHTED BY JOHN RIGBY & CO. FOR HIGH VELOCITY CARTRIDGE 140 GRS BULLET. On the right side of the barrel is marked: .275 RIGBY with London Nitro proofs. There is a ramped front sight, and a folding cocking-piece peep sight. Claw mount bases are installed. The slender, semi-pistol-grip stock has light figure. A beaded cheek-piece was expertly added. The length of pull is 14 1/8” over a solid red pad. (13 1/8” to the end of the wood.) The weight is 7 lbs 5 oz. A wonderful classic sporter.
