Description:
Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Saddle Ring Short Rifle in .44-40 WCF
This is a Winchester 1873 rifle in 44-40 it has a 20" octagon barrel standard walnut stocks and the receiver is equipped with a saddle ring.

Condition:
The overall condition of this Winchester 1873 rifle is good. The metal surfaces have turned to a brown patina with some mild pitting on the plates and in places on the barrel, with some wear and with defined edges throughout.  The wood is very good with some minor chips, a small repair in the toe of the buttstock, and mild wear. The bore is mostly bright with light oxidation and strong rifling. The screw heads are mostly in good condition with some showing turn wear. The receiver manufactured in 1911 and subsequently configured as a saddle ring short rifle in the period. The rifle cycles well from the magazine and locks up tight on a round and has a positive ejection. The toggles are in good condition and have no cracks which is common for these rifles.

This rifle was shot three times cycling from the magazine and using smokeless ammunition. The rifle was accurate out to 50 yards hitting what it was aimed at. This was a function firing test and no attempt was made to determine accuracy.

This reconfigured Winchester 1873 with the 20" barrel makes it a very handy rifle. It could easily be put back to work and would make a great farm rifle or to carry well in a saddle scabbard.
