Description:
WWII GERMAN MAUSER s/42 Code “1938” Date Luger P.08 Pistol C&R w/HOLSTER

THIRD REICH 9mm Sidearm

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R German s/42 Code 1938 Date Mauser P.08 Luger with Holster, made in Obendorf, Germany. It was manufactured by Mauser in 1938, using a combination “S/42” code on top of the receiver ring. Introduced during the early years of the Third Reich Party’s dominance of Germany, the code system was intended to obscure the scale and speed of German re-armament. Based on Hugo Borchardt’s novel design of a semi-automatic pistol, the “Luger” pistol was designed by Georg Luger, the man tasked with taking an awkward, cumbersome and expensive pistol and making it into one of the world’s most iconic firearms of all time. The Model P.08 was adopted by Germany and was used through both WWI and WWII.

This piece is “1938” dated on the barrel and has the Mauser company’s coded designation of “S/42”. Interestingly, since the terms of the Treaty of Versailles only allowed the German Simson & Company to produce any of the few small arms granted Germany after World War I, arms production was done secretly at Mauser, among others. The “S” stands for “Simson” to throw off suspicion, and “/42” was the rest of the code for the Mauser factory. Dates were left off of the barrel until about 1936 when Germany’s arms production and military activities started to be brought into the light.

This example is “eagle/63” and droop wing “eagle” proofed. Also included is an “eagle/swastika/WaA323” proofed brown leather flap holster with a take down tool and an extra magazine.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Excellent action. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. Both grips are good with some wear on the checkering. Markings are sharp. Visible numbers match, except for the magazines. The holster is very good and includes an extra magazine and take down tool.
