Description:
Game Scene Engraved Antique WINCHESTER M1873 Lever Action Rifle .44-40 WCF

With Cody Letter; Made 1886 New Haven

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Winchester Model 1873 Rifle in .44 WCF, made in 1886 in New Haven, Connecticut. The accompanying letter confirms the octagonal barrel and a shipping date of October 13, 1886. This rifle was shortened to 20” at some point to make a “short rifle”, and the receiver was engraved with game scenes of deer, elk, and bear. A great piece for display.

The overall condition is good. This example retains some of the period refinished blue, sharing space with a plum barrel patina. Solid stock and forend with light handling wear, minimal dents and dings. The forend is a replacement. The action fully functions. The bore is mostly bright, dims towards the muzzled and shows serviceable rifling. Replacement front sight.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 20 inches.

Caliber: .44-40 Winchester Center Fire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
