This authentic British military surplus lot consists of an original H83 Mark 2 steel ammunition can filled with 720 rounds of Royal Ordnance Factory Radway Green 5.56×45mm NATO L2A2 Ball ammunition. Produced in 1989, these cartridges are loaded with the British L2A2 SS109-pattern 62-grain steel-core projectile, the NATO-standard equivalent to the U.S. M855 service cartridge. Radway Green was the United Kingdom's primary producer of NATO small arms ammunition, supplying British Armed Forces and allied militaries throughout the Cold War and beyond. The headstamps display the 1989 production year and official NATO interchangeability mark.
The H83 MK2 ammunition can remains clearly marked with its original British military stenciling, and load designation identifying the original military packing configuration. The can itself is an authentic British service container featuring the heavy-gauge steel construction, gasket-sealed hinged lid, folding carry handle, and durable olive drab finish that made these containers standard issue throughout NATO service.
While the original military packaging has been opened, the cartridges remain stored loose with their original 10-round British stripper clips. A commercial surplus inventory label indicates the ammunition was previously sorted and repackaged for surplus commercial distribution while retaining its original military stripper clips.
This lot offers an outstanding combination of collectible Cold War British military surplus and highly desirable NATO-specification ammunition.
