Manufactured by Remington Rand in 1943, this U.S. Model M1911A1 falls within the correct wartime serial range and bears the hallmark inspection and acceptance markings expected of a World War II service pistol. The frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY," with the G.H.D. inspector stamp of Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry, the Ordnance crossed-cannon cartouche, and a Type III Remington Rand slide correctly marked "REMINGTON RAND INC., SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A." Together, these documented military markings are consistent with an original 1943 Remington Rand wartime production configuration.
Designed around John Browning's legendary short-recoil operating system, the M1911A1 earned its reputation through exceptional reliability, controllable recoil, and formidable .45 ACP chambering. This example retains the classic stamped short trigger, military grip safety, arched lanyard-loop mainspring housing, fixed combat sights, and an HS-marked barrel.
Remington Rand became the largest producer of the wartime M1911A1, manufacturing more pistols than any other contractor during World War II. Although originally known for typewriters and office equipment, the company successfully transitioned into precision wartime arms production and supplied hundreds of thousands of sidearms to American servicemen serving across Europe and the Pacific.
The G.H.D. inspection mark, U.S. PROPERTY legend, proof marks, Type III slide legend, and brown reinforced service grips are all consistent with a 1943 WWII military pistol. The included magazine is marked "19200-ASSY 5508694 MFR. 1M291," indicating a later U.S. military replacement magazine.
