The Griffin & Howe Round Body Sidelock represents the pinnacle of Spanish bespoke shotgun craftsmanship, built by the renowned Arrieta of Eibar, Spain exclusively for the legendary Griffin & Howe of New York. Combining the graceful lines of a round-body Holland & Holland-style sidelock with exceptional engraving and impeccable finish, this elegant .410 bore is a true best-quality sporting gun. Manufactured in 2004, it remains in outstanding condition and appears to have seen little more than factory proofing and test firing.
Chambered in .410 bore with 3-inch chambers, the shotgun is fitted with 27-inch barrels choked Improved Cylinder (.003") and Modified (.004"), making it ideally suited for upland birds, preserve shooting, and sporting clays. Weighing just 5 pounds 15.1 ounces, it is exceptionally lively in the hands while maintaining enough weight for a smooth, controlled swing. The matted tapering rib is fitted with a traditional gold front bead, completing the classic game gun profile.
Built on an elegant round-body Holland & Holland-style sidelock action, the shotgun features a single non-selective trigger, automatic safety, and ejectors. Mechanically, it is in excellent overall condition. The action is smooth and locks up tightly, the single trigger is crisp, the ejectors are strong and properly timed, and the gun functions exactly as it should. The overall condition suggests the shotgun has seen little use beyond factory proofing and test firing.
The coin-finished receiver is beautifully engraved with exceptional game scenes surrounded by flowing fine scroll. The left side depicts four quail in flight over a field scene, while the right side features three pheasants in flight against a countryside backdrop. The underside of the receiver is adorned with an elegant scroll motif surrounding "Griffin & Howe" inlaid in gold, accompanied by the iconic G&H ram logo also inlaid in gold. The word "SAFE" is gold inlaid on the top tang, and the engraving is signed by Master Engraver V. Alberdi, one of Spain's accomplished artisans.
The richly blued steel barrels are perfectly complemented by a beautifully figured deluxe straight-grip walnut stock and matching beavertail forend. Sharp diamond-point checkering remains crisp throughout, reflecting the gun's exceptional condition while providing a secure grip in the field.
