Description:
I am offering a Civil War imported M1844 Extra Corps Austrian Musketoon. These musketoons are discussed on page 83 of the excellent reference book, European Arms in the Civil War. This one is rare in that it came unaltered. It still retains its tubelock and has not been rifled. Additionally it retains a simple block sight on the tang. The overall length is 48 3/8" with a 33 1/2" barrel. The lock plate is marked 849. The tang is marked 165 / 11B / 4C. The butt platre tang is marked 4C. IW or MI appears on the right rear barrel flat.. The action is strong and the tubelock mechaism works as it should. The barrel is a smooth bore of .70 caliber. The Laukart bayonet spring is still present. The metal parts have a deep chocolate patina. The stock shows bumps and bruises that would be expected from handling during several wars. The ramrod looks orinal and looks the same as the speciman shown in the reference book.If you collect Civil War muskets, chances are you do not have one of these and it is priced right.
