IVER JOHNSON TARGET SEALED 8 .22 REVOLVER
Description: I once read that Iver Johnson revolvers were for the Saturday night specials of their day. This was untrue and unfair. Iver Johnson revolvers were the Rugers of their day. In 1949, Bill Ruger produced a pistol to compete with the Colt semiautomatic 22s, and Iver Johnson, in 1878, set out to deliver high-quality yet affordable firearms to compete with Colt and Smith & Wesson. This is a well-made, nicely finished, reliable, accurate, and affordable .22 eight-shot double-action revolver. The metal was finally polished and nicely blued with 99 plus percent remaining. The bore is shiny with sharp rifling. It has checkered wallet grips, a group trigger, and a case-hard hammer. It has a 6" round barrel, grooved top strap rear sight, and undercut partridge front sight. Mechanically, it works perfectly. These revolvers are famous for being sealed against escaping gases and also allow safe dry firing without damaging the cylinder. It is a simple, strong, and versatile little revolver made of high-quality steel, the same as used in Smith & Wesson's and Colts. It is considered a large frame model that weighs only 24 ounces it is 10 inches long. It is part of the second generation and was manufactured between 1947 and 1955. Precise manufacturing dates are difficult to determine with Iver Johnson revolvers. For reloading, it has a removable cylinder. Remove the cylinder pin and drop the cylinder out. Use the cylinder pin to remove the empties, reload, drop it back in the frame, reinsert the pin, and you are ready to go. Reloading time is roughly approximate to that of a single action 22 revolver. I believe Iver Johnson did this because the solid frame offers more strength than their traditional top-break revolvers, but they were also able to hold down costs by not producing more costly swing-out cylinders. It seemed to be a reasonable and workable compromise. This would be a great little revolver to teach a young person to shoot or just to have an accurate, reliable revolver. It is great for plinking if you are hiking, fishing, or doing other activities. Iver Johnson advertises it as a target revolver. It is not in the sense we think of them today because of the fixed sights, but that was not uncommon in days past.
