This Ruger "Old Model" Bearcat was made from 1969 to 1971 until the introduction of the Super Bearcat, which took it's place in the Ruger model lineup. The Bearcat was a commercial success for the Ruger company and quickly earned a reputation for being well-built, accurate, safe, and reliable. The small size of this 6-shot single-action revolver made it a great fit for the small hands of a young shooter, and the single action only operation made it much safer than a double action gun in the hands of an inexperienced operator. The small size was also a great selling point for a trapper or hunter who needed a lightweight small caliber gun that was simple, reliable, and wouldn't weigh him down. This example is serial number 91-27436 and is a nice original example in good overall condition. This Bearcat shows some dings and light wear but has not been shot very much. Much of the original factory blue finish is still bright and attractive. The bore is in excellent shape with strong rifling, free from pitting or erosion. The original Walnut grips are in great shape and are free from cracks or repairs. The silver Ruger medallions are still in place and the grips are tight to the frame. The butt of this Ruger has some dings and scratches as you can see in the pictures, from someone maybe using it as a mallet who was in a pinch. The mechanics of this Bearcat are perfect. The action is precise and "in time". The cylinder locks up properly and the trigger is quite good. Even 47 plus years later this "Old Model" Bearcat is a great option for someone looking for a small rimfire pistol to pack with them, or the perfect choice to teach a responsible kid to shoot a revolver.
