Smith & Wesson Model 30-1 32 S&W Long with Original Box, Paperwork
Description: The Model 30 also known as the .32 Hand Ejector, is one of S&W’s less well known models. It was a descendent of the .32 Hand Ejector 1st Model also known as the Model 1896. It was the first S&W revolver to feature a swing-out cylinder. It operated quite differently, requiring the user to pull the ejector rod forward to open the cylinder. The familiar thumbpiece was not introduced until the .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903 (.32 Hand Ejector, 2nd Model). The Model 30 was essentially the end of the line for the .32 S&W Long Cartridge. One reason it proved popular for so long was that the “I” and “J” frames the Model 30 and its predecessors were based on could hold 6 shots of .32 Long versus 5 shots for the older .38 S&W and the later .38 S&W Special. Indeed, the Model 30 looks like nothing more than a Model 36 with a smaller diameter bore and a 6-shot cylinder. The example shown here is a Model 30-1. This variation saw the transition between the “I” frame to the now popular “J” frame. The difference was in the length of the frame itself, and pertained more to the .38 cartridges than the .32’s. The “I” frame’s could only manage the older .38 S&W but not the longer .38 Special, hence why the “J” frame was created. Moving the Model 30 to the newer frame simplified production. Overall, the Model 30-1 is in superb condition. It has little in the way of external wear, the bluing being in roughly 98 percent condition. The condition of the bore suggests it has not been fired that much. The 30-1 comes with its original box which is also in great shape, as well as the original paperwork.
