Smith & Wesson Performance Center Pro Series Model 686 Plus 357 Mag 5” Like New in Box
Description:
The Model 686 is the de-facto standard of the Smith & Wesson medium-frame revolver line. It has been used for every purpose from self-defense to target shooting and by a great many people. Like its blued finish cousin, the Model 586, the 686 was designed to correct then existent strength issues with its predecessor, the stainless K-frame Model 66 by using the new, slightly larger L-frame. That Smith & Wesson succeeded with the 686 can be attested to by the fact that the model has been in continuous production since 1980. The example here is a like new in box Performance Center Pro Series 686-6 Plus. The Plus denotes that this 686 has 7-shot cylinder rather than the usual 6-shot. Although previously owned, it has never been fired since leaving the factory. Proof of this is the fact that only three of the seven chambers have a faint powder burn on the front face of the cylinder. The Pro Series 686 Plus features a 5-inch, tapered-lug barrel, an interchangeable Patridge front sight and Micrometer-click rear sight, chamfered charge holes in the cylinder, a bossed mainspring, and a recessed crown at the muzzle. For controls, the Pro Series 686 Plus is equipped with a 0.312-inch smooth combat trigger and a 0.375-inch semi-target hammer. It comes from the factory sporting the standard rubber grips with finger grooves. These are designed to ensure a positive grip during firing. They are produced by Hogue specifically for Smith & Wesson, and as such, use the S&W logo rather than Hogue’s. The revolver does come with its original factory box. As with any .357 Magnum, the 686 Plus will also shoot the .38 Special. This is useful for saving money when practice shooting at the range. Technically speaking, the revolver will also chamber and fire the older .38 Long Colt as it is the predecessor to both the .38 Special and .357 Magnum. This cartridge is not all that common though. This 686 comes would make an excellent shooter.
