SUPERB, MINTY CONDITION S&W .38/44 HEAVY DUTY PRE-MODEL 20 REVOLVER, SCARCE 4" BARREL, #S149XXX, MADE 1955-1956. Most of these fine , heavy .38 Special revolvers were made with 5" barrel with the 4" more difficult to find. This example appears to have seen no use as it retains about all the bright blue and case colors on the hammer and trigger. Even the front face of the cylinder retains about all the blue and there is only a hint of a cylinder line and touch of muzzle wear. The grips are sharply diamond checkered and have matching serial number stamped on the inside that match the barrel, frame and cylinder. Only 9,493 of these were made in nickel and blue finish in 4", 5" and 6 1/2" barrels. This one just needs a box.
