Colt Anaconda 2021 44 Magnum Stainless 4.25” New in Box
Description: The Colt Anaconda! A name that has grown in status over the many years since its introduction and discontinuance so as to be nearly legendary, similar to its smaller cousin the Python. The Anaconda is often considered the “holy grail” of .44 Magnum revolvers. Designed to best any .44 Magnum revolver produced at the time, production of the Anaconda began in 1990. It was essentially an upscaled King Cobra and was never hand-fitted, unlike the Python. One of the Anaconda’s most recognizable features is its ventilated rib, though many Colt revolvers used this same feature. The second most notable feature is its size – the Anaconda was the largest revolver until the introduction of the Smith & Wesson X-frame series of revolvers. The record was previously held by the Colt New Service revolver. The Anaconda, like the Python, is known for its extreme accuracy. One reason for this was the use of what many Colt fans refer to as the “silver ball method”. A Colt trade secret, persons who were actually allowed to see it stated that a silvery ball made of an unknown material were pressed down the unassembled barrels bore by hand (using a tool of course), leaving the bore very shiny. Sadly, falling interest in revolvers and lowered demand for them on the market led to Colt ceasing production of all double action revolvers, even from the custom shop, in 2003. Over the years, original Anacondas, particularly those chambered in the .45 Colt, grew in value. Needless to say, Colt eventually realized by the early 2010s that there was a growing interest in revolvers. Testing the waters, Colt reintroduced a newer version of the Cobra in 2017. This was followed up in 2019 by the King Cobra, and in 2020 by an updated version of the Python was finally released. Hot on its heels, the new, updated Anaconda was released in 2021, featuring several improvements over the originals. The newer version is essentially an upscaled Python 2020 rather than an upscaled King Cobra. The front sight is removable, and the barrel crown is counter-sunk. This serves two functions – it protects the true muzzle of the Anaconda and improves the revolver’s inherent accuracy. The barrel is a true heavy barrel rather than the screw-in barrel and shroud found on most modern revolvers. The newer Anaconda’s bulk is intended to allow it to handle the same heavy loads of .44 Magnum normally associated with Ruger revolvers. The rear face of the cylinder features a cutout designed to increase the safety of the shooter in the event of a blown cartridge case head. The action has been improved with the simplification of the design – there are fewer moving components, and therefore the action is much smoother, thanks to the new Linear Leaf Spring Action introduced with the Cobra in 2017. The double action pull should run around 9 – 10 lbs. in weight, with the single action coming in at around 5 – 6 lbs. The trigger and hammer are reinforced to increase longevity. The heavy hammer also aids in ensuring good primer strikes. One very positive improvement over the original Anaconda revolvers is that the new ones lock up like a bank vault, similar to older Colt revolvers. The originals, on the other hand, being essentially a scaled up Trooper Mark V, did not lock up very tightly. The importance of the lock-up being tight is that it provides superb accuracy compared to revolvers that do not feature the "bank vault" lockup. The example shown here is new in the box and ready to go. The polished stainless finish gives the Anaconda a gorgeous appearance. Barrel length is 4.25 inches making this revolver very suitable for carrying in the woods for self-defense.
