Excellent Antique Smith & Wesson Double Action .44 Russian. Blue finish,, Mint Bore. Like New Mechanics..
Description: SOLD !!! REDUCED PRICE !!! Was $2450 now $2250.. This is a super nice gun at this price.!!! I found another one of these for sale with a factory letter and it has the S/N 36XXX and that gun was made in 1897 so this gun was made in 1897 or earlier as I have had people ask when I thought this one was made...Excellent antique Smith & Wesson double action in .44 Russian with original antique belt and holster rig.. Here is a well above average Smith & Wesson DA.. This is a harder to find blued example as most were nickle plated.. It has the standard 6 1/2” barrel and is chambered in the super accurate .44 Russian caliber.. S/N is 33247 MFG in 1897 or a year earlier and all matching of course...These were made from 1881 to 1913 and S/N range from 1 to 54668. This one does indeed fall into the pre 1898 range but no question of it being an antique because all of the frames of these S&W DA's were made before 1898 so they are all considered antique.. As you can see from the photos this gun has a lot of original blue finish remaining.. I will try to break it down for you for an honest percentage.. The frame including the front and rear grip straps has about 80% bright and deep blue.. The cylinder has about an over all rating 70% just thinning on the outer surface with most all the bright deep blue remaining in the flutes and the longer locking notches.. The barrel assembly has thinned to about 25% still retaining bright deep blue in the protected areas as you can see in the photos.. The barrels on these top break Smith & Wesson's are the first part of the gun to lose it's finish from holding the gun by the barrel to open and close them for loading.. No pitting on the gun anywhere.. A couple very minor honest handling dings and a scratch or two and that is it... The hammer has 100% case colors on the top, the left side and on the rear with the right side slightly fading to about 60%.. The trigger has 90% case colors on the right side and on the rear with the left side fading to about 50%.. The face of the trigger is of course worn to silver.. The barrel latch has most all the bright blue just worn where the knurling is.. The trigger guard has about 70% bright blue just thinning on the bottom.. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun in DA and SA mode.. There is absolutely no cylinder play when the gun is cocked for the SA, when the hammer is at rest or when the trigger is pulled for the DA mode.. No side to side movement or wobbles at all.. Rock solid like new fit frame to barrel at the latch and the hinge.. Half and full cock notches are perfect and positive.. The markings are of course excellent.. The grips are excellent with no cracks or chips.. The checkering is still sharp showing very little wear at all and a perfect snap on factory fit.. Untouched front sight.. The screws heads show very little turning and the take down pins show no smashing. The bore is flat out mint!!! Bright and shiny like new.. When you shine a flash light in at the muzzle you can see most all the factory blue inside the bore .. Looks like never fired !!! All 6 of the cylinder chambers have 100% bright deep blue inside them as well { see photo }... Now folks I don't know how many rounds of black powder it takes to burn the blue out of a bore and chambers... This gun has absolutely been carried more than it has been fired for sure.. It is hard to find large frame western revolvers in blue finish that I can sell at reasonable prices. The belt and holster are not included in this sale but are for sale for $350.. The holster fits the gun like a glove.. The belt is the money belt design and belt loops are 44 or 45 caliber.. Would also take the 38-40 round as well.. I can give you more photos and details on the rig if you are interested in it.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.. $35 insured shipping.. Don't miss this one if you are a Smith & Wesson collector or a collector of the large frame western revolvers.. SOLD Antique: Yes |
