Smith & Wesson, Third Model (Standard Model), .44 Caliber (Russian)
Description: This is a "Standard" 6.5' barrel, six-shot cylinder with worn nickel finish, and checkered hard rubber grips, with all matching serial numbers 13,381. There are no foreign proofmarks and the barrel is clearly marked with the correct patent information. It features a blade front sight and the rear sight is an unusually small "V" buckhorn sight. The motteled gray patina frame and barrel still show a small amount of bluing. All screws are original and in very good condition. The trigger, hammer, and cylinder action are all functional and cycle correctly, and the action is tight. The half and full cock work on the hammer, the cylinder locks and indexes, and the ejectors function correctly. The bore is very good and the rifling shows well under lighted conditions. Grips are of hard rubber with a worn amount of checkering, but no cracks or breaks, and the Smith & Wesson logo still stands out clearly. S&W made approximately 32,000 of this model which represents approximately 10 percent of the first run production for this Colt Single Action Revolver. It is hard to find a decent one and prices are steep when you do find one in a very good functioning condition. It is interesting to note that the New Model 3, Standard, was the choice of weapon at this time in Western History. Many famous individuals that used it as either a primary or backup revolver were: Virgil Earp (lawman); Buffalo Bill Cody (Indian scout and Wild West Show owner); Jesse James (bank robber), and Bob Ford (gunman); Pat Garrett (lawman); Billy the Kid (killer); Annie Oakley (trickshot sharpshooter and Wild West Show star); Dallas Stoudenmier (Texas Ranger); Frank and Jesse James(bank/train robbers); Bob and Cole Younger (members of the James Gang); and John Wesley Hardin (gunslinger/Killer). **IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT AN IN PERSON OR VIDEO INSPECTION OF THIS WEAPON BE CONDUCTED PRIOR TO ON THIS REVOLVER** **(ALL OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED)** **BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SHIPPING/INSURANCE CHARGES** Price: $5,050.00 Buy Now Antique: Yes Handgun Caliber: .44 S&W Russian Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Model: 3rd Model (Standard Model) Serial Number: 13381 Barrel Length: 6 1/2 Bore Info: Very Good Chambers: Very Good Ejectors: Fine Condition: Used - Very Good Metal Condition: Good Bore Condition: Very Good Barrels: Good Barrel Type: Round Action: Single Triggers: Very Good Finish: Mottle Gray Patina Sights: Blade Manufacture Date: 1873-74 Grips: Gutta Percha (Hard Rubber) Contact Seller |
