Colt ~ M1917 ~ .45 Cal
Description: This 1918 double action revolver is a Colt U.S. Army Model 1917 chambered in .45 Cal. It has a fixed blade front sight, a grooved receiver rear sight, a smooth curved trigger, is 10⅝" in overall length, and has smooth walnut grip panels. This large frame revolver was adopted by the United States Military in 1917, to supplement the standard M1911 pistol during World War I. They use moon-clips to hold the cartridges in position, facilitate reloading, and to aid in extraction. A commercial rimmed cartridge, the .45 Auto Rim, was also developed, so M1917 revolvers could eject cartridge cases without using moon-clips. The M1917 was used by the military from WW I through the Vietnam War. The underside of the barrel is stamped, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY." The bottom of the butt 'U.S./ ARMY / MODEL / 1917 / No / 11 / 676." The left side of the barrel is roll marked, "COLT D.A. 45." The top of the barrel is marked, "COLT'S PT F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT U.S.A. PAT'D AUG 5, 1884 JUNE 5, 1900 JULY 4, 1905." The factory number on this Colt Model 1917 revolver frame is 162109. Note the letter "H" above the number "2" the mark of Frank Hosmer, a Colt factory assistant inspector. The acceptance stamp used until February 1918 was that of Army Inspector of Ordnance (AIO) Officer Gilbert H. Stewart. His initials "GHS" are superimposed in a circle located on the upper left side of the frame. It comes with a soft side revolver case, and three moon clips. .45 Colt SOLD Chambers: 6 round cylinder Metal Condition: The finish has a great patina Wood Condition: "The wood grip panels are in very good condition, with no chips or cracks visible, and showing a great handling patina Bore Condition: Bore is bright and shiny with great rifling Barrels: 5½" barrel Triggers: Smooth curved trigger Stock Dimensions: 10⅝" Overall length Butt Pad: Smooth walnut grip panels Weight: 2 lbs 7 oz Sights: "Fixed blade front sight, grooved receiver rear sight Item Location: Wichita, KS |
