Colt .455 New Service Revolver 1899 (Old Model)
Serial #1073, .45 Colt, 4 1/2" barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some dark freckling within the grooves. This London-proofed revolver was originally chambered in .455 Eley, but was rechambered to .45 Colt at some point. The revolver has correct early features: scalloped front sight, exposed crane stop, long ejector finial, and flat cylinder latch; along with the rarer 4 1/2" barrel length. The metal retains 80-85% of the original commercial quality blue with handling marks and gray fading from use on the muzzle, and along the high and exposed edges. The gripstraps have developed an overall freckled, pewter gray patina. The screws, hammer, and trigger have retained much of their original bright fire blue, with the balance turned to a bright patina overall. The revolver is accompanied by a 2008 dated Colt factory letter that lists a shipping date of March 27, 1899, as part of a 36 gun shipment to Colt’s London Agency. Presumably, the revolver was a private purchase for the Boer War, and rates very good-fine condition overall. FFL or C&R
