Here we present an antique French Folding Trigger Pepperbox. This firearm was made circa the 1870s likely in London, England. The pepperbox was invented in the 1830s and was intended for civilian use, but military officers often made private purchases for their own use. The design spread rapidly in the United States, the United Kingdom and other parts of continental Europe. It was expressly made for self-defense, giving the shooter multiple shots without having to cock a hammer. This pistol is double action, with a cluster of 12 barrels that revolves with each pull of the trigger.
One can only imagine the look on the face of an attacker on the busy streets of London in the tumultuous times of the late 1800s staring at a 12-shot snub nose pepperbox staring back at them. Quite the deterrent, with no argument.
The overall condition is good+. Strong action. All bores are clear and remain in good shape or better. English proofed cylinder flutes. Both grips contain sharp checkering with little handling wear. The ejector pin is absent from the bottom of the grip frame (it would have been a separate piece that threaded into the pommel for carry).
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrels are 2 inches.
