Cased British Pepperbox by James Woodward. .34 Caliber, 3 ¼” ribbed six-barrel cluster with moderately oxidized smooth bores. The barrel cluster shows some areas of bold case-hardened colors scattered about with overall toning to a mild gray-brown patina, also with some very fine minor pinprick pitting. The remaining metal surfaces are similar with wisps of bold case-hardened colors in the protected areas and some light dings. The frame is embellished with attractive light English scroll on the sides and backstrap and is otherwise not maker-marked. The finely checkered walnut grips remain in very good plus condition showing a couple of lightly chipped points, some darkened areas and remnants of original varnish. The action seems to function well mechanically with very good timing and lock-up. Included is an attractive mahogany case with large brass presentation plate affixed to the lid that is neatly engraved “Mr. John Brown/Hamilton/Canada”. The case remains in very good plus condition showing a couple of scattered light chips around the edges, minor dings and strong original varnish. The interior is lined in green baize with a nice James Woodward London label on the lid and contains a number of nice period accessories including: mahogany handle jag, dual cavity bulled mold that shows moderate wear and a cavity for a round ball and ovoid ball, small fluted brass powder flask, unmarked oil bottle and partial cap tin with Theo Wehle label. An attractive cased British pepperbox shipped over to Canada.
